Why the Future of work is Hybrid

Why the Future of work is Hybrid

During the pandemic many companies throughout the world faced a drastic transformation to remote work setups. Pandemic has forced companies to find a way to keep the employees productive outside the office space. Nevertheless, working remotely has its limitations, chiefly with communication and collaboration. More importantly employees may also feel drained out because there is no segregation between the responsibility of work and home.

Adding to the lack of separation between work and life, it has become a challenge for both employers and employees to carry on work which uses fixed equipment. This type of jobs are those that include operation of machinery, use laboratory equipment, or transactions which need to be processed in physical stores

Now that the majority of the population has been vaccinated, the post-pandemic workforce is starting to return to their workplaces. Most companies think about combining remote work and working in-office. Through this they can reap the benefits of both set-ups, one of the favourable ways is the hybrid work model, which allows the employees to have multiple choices regarding their workplace. One of the recent research by Accenture states that 83 per cent of employees think that a hybrid work model is currently the best option. This gives the employees the freedom to be physically present only a few days a week.

Difference of Remote Work and in the Office

There is structure and transparency in the In-office work, this can increase trust between management and workers. Organizational culture is something that we develop naturally. For instance an unexpected chat with a colleague can lead to knowledge-sharing and collaborative problem-solving. This can be challenging in a virtual world. Remote work requires  pre-scheduling online and can be workable with needed planning and communication. when we consider different metrics, in-office work loses out to working from home.  Some of the recent research shows that remote workers report more productivity and they enjoy working from home because of the flexibility and shortened or nonexistent commute time. Companies save money through remote work due to the significant cost saving for office space. With the hybrid system they aim to combine the best of both worlds.

What is a Hybrid Work Model?

Looking at the hybrid work model it is the combination of in-office and remote work in an employee's schedule. It gives the employees the ability to occasionally choose in the office and work from home. There is no standardised hybrid model. A hybrid model is developed by each company based on the needs of the company and needs of the individual employee.

Advantages of Hybrid Work Model

Office-first models expect their employees to be on clock between 9 am and 5 pm every workday. The hybrid work model offers more flexibility to get work done when they are most productive.  Some people work best early in the morning while some will be productive in the evening. They have the choice of either to work with their teammates on-site or work away from a remote location.

Better work-life balance

Everyone chooses a hybrid work model because of its flexibility and it is easy to find balance in a flexible work space. This allows the employees to have more control over their work schedule, giving them an opportunity to handle things that crop up in their personal lives. It can be running an errand, picking kids from school or being able to be home for a delivery.

Reduce exposure to illness

According to a recent survey most people are scared about their safety and health when it comes to returning to work. By reducing the number of employees at work, the risk of sick employees infecting others is reduced. Companies need health screenings or proof of vaccination for employees who are coming into the workplace. Because the employee has the opportunity to work remotely under the most hybrid work models, a sick employee can stay home or work remotely.

Hire talent across the globe

With a hybrid work model, the company will be able to hire talented people all across the world. Access to a wider talent pool gives you a chance to hire people with specialized skills. Giving your organization a competitive edge, helping you to move into new markets and ensure around-the-clock productivity.

The hybrid work model is here to stay. It used to be considered as an alternative style of work. As economies begin to reopen, companies have to incorporate changes to better indulge to different employee needs. Some employees work more efficiently from home. For better communication and collaboration some need physical interaction. Simple solution for this is to provide more options to improve overall productivity. We can say that the future of work is hybrid and companies will require to adapt to the change otherwise they will be left behind.
