The Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC ) has released the UPSC IFoS Notification 2023 for the UPSC Indian Forest Service Exam 2023. Interested candidates can apply for the exam from the official website upsc.gov.in. The UPSC has announced a total of 150 posts under Indian Forest Service Recruitment 2023. The application process has already started and the last date to apply for the examination is February 21, 2023.
The Indian Forest Service is commonly referred to as IFoS. The Indian Forest Service (IFoS) is one of the Union Government's three All India Services, alongside the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS). In UPSC IFS is mentioned for Indian Foreign Service and it is also a part of the Civil Services Exam. So, it's necessary for the candidates to be aware of the difference between UPSC IFS & IFOS.
OVERVIEW OF THE EXAM
The UPSC is deputed for conducting the UPSC exam for Indian Forest Service (IFoS). The exam will be conducted in three phases, which includes prelims exam, mains exam and the personality test. There are two papers for the IFoS prelims exam, that are GS I and CSAT, both are objective in nature. In the General Studies paper, each question carries 2 marks and each question in the Civil Service Aptitude Test paper carries 2.5 marks. There will be a 1/3rd mark deduction for every wrong answer.
Candidates who qualify the prelims exam can appear for the mains exam. The UPSC IFoS mains exam is quite different from the UPSC CSE exam. There are a total of 6 papers in the Indian Forest Service mains exam and the exam will be descriptive in nature.
Candidates who qualify the mains exam will get the opportunity to appear for the UPSC IFoS interview and those who qualify in the UPSC IFoS interview will finally get selected in the UPSC IFoS exam for various posts within the Indian Forest Services under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.

IMPORTANT DATES
The UPSC IFoS exam date for prelims is the same as the UPSC CSE prelims exam date. Candidates can apply for the post till February 21, 2023 and the window will be open for modifications from February 22, 2023 to February 28, 2023. The UPSC IFoS prelims exam will be conducted on May 28, 2023 and the mains exam is expected to be conducted in the month of November 2023.
ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
Nationality:
A candidate must be either :-
A citizen of India, or
A subject of Nepal, or
A subject of Bhutan, or
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the
intention of permanently settling in India, or
a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India
Age Limits:
As per the IAS age eligibility requirements, applicants for the UPSC IFoS 2023 exam must be between the ages of 21 and 32. Those belonging to reserved category are eligible for age relaxation as per the UPSC rules.
Educational Qualifications:
Candidate who applying for IFoS exam must hold a Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in one of the following subjects,
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Botany
Chemistry
Geology
Mathematics
Physics
Statistics
Zoology
NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS
Every candidate appearing for the IFoS examination is eligible for six attempts. Even so, relaxation in the number of attempts is available to the SC/ST/OBC and PwBD category candidates. The number of attempts available to such candidates as per relaxation is given below.
FEES
Candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India by cash or by using Net Banking facility of any bank or by using Visa/Master/RuPay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment
All Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates are exempted from payment of fee
