UPSC CSE 2023 Notification Out: Exam Date, Eligibility, Syllabus, Exam Pattern

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) disclosed the detailed notification for the nation’s most prestigious government job, Civil Services Examination 2023 on their official website upsc.gov.in. Through this exam, aspirants will get the opportunity to join India's most reputable services, including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Foreign Service, and other high-profile positions. Aspirants can submit their UPSC 2023 exam application form online at upsconline.nic.in. The last date to apply for CSE 2023 is February 21. 


It is anticipated that the UPSC CSE 2023 will fill about 1105 of the open positions which include 37 vacancies reserved for persons with benchmark disability category, 15 vacancies for individuals with locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy, and 10 vacancies for individuals with multiple disabilities. 


UPSC CSE 2023 EXAM DATE 


The UPSC Civil Service Exam is conducted in three stages - prelims, mains and personality test. The preliminary exam will be conducted on May 28, 2023. The candidates who pass the prelims exam will be shortlisted for the main written exam. Candidates who plan to take the exam should maintain track of the exam events and dates. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


Candidates must meet all eligibility standards outlined in the official notice in order to be eligible for the UPSC 2023 examination to become IAS/IPS/IFS and other officials. The eligibility criteria for IAS 2023 exam comprises age limit, educational qualification, nationality and number of attempts. 


Nationality Condition: 


  • For the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), a candidate must be a citizen of India

  • For other services, a candidate must be either:

    • a citizen of India, or

    • a subject of Nepal, or

    • a subject of Bhutan, or 

    • a Tibetan refugee who entered India prior to January 1, 1962, with the purpose to settle there permanently, or

    • a person of Indian origin who moved to India with the purpose of residing there permanently, primarily from Vietnam, Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia


Age Limit:


As per the IAS age eligibility requirements, applicants for the UPSC IAS 2023 exam must be between the ages of 21 and 32. Those belonging to reserved category are eligible for age relaxation as per the UPSC rules.

Educational Qualifications: 


The candidates must hold a graduation-level degree from a government-recognized or UGC-approved university and the graduation could be done in any branch. Those who are appearing for the final year examination of graduation can also apply for UPSC. However, their degree results should be announced before the UPSC final exam.


Number of Attempts: 


Every candidate appearing for the CSE examination is eligible for six attempts. Even so, relaxation in the number of attempts is available to the SC/ST/OBC and PwBD category candidates. The number of attempts available to such candidates as per relaxation is given below.

FEES


Candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India by cash or by using Net Banking facility of any bank or by using Visa/Master/RuPay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment. All Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates are exempted from payment of fee.


SELECTION PROCESS


UPSC conducts civil service examination every year. The exam is conducted as a three-stage exam which includes,


  • Prelims exam

  • Mains exam

  • Personality test 


Prelims examination is an objective type paper, which includes two general studies papers i.e., GS Paper 1 (Subject specific) and GS Paper 2 (CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test). Every wrong answer one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to the question are deducted for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Only the candidates who clear the prelims exam will qualify for the next stage, i.e. the main examination. Main examination is subjective in nature and it comprises Essay, English, General Studies and optional subject papers. Those who clear the mains examination will be selected for the interview or the personality test, which is the last stage of the examination.

ADMIT CARD


The Union Public Service Commission will release the online format UPSC IAS 2023 admit card on the official website. Separate hall tickets will be provided for prelims & mains examination. UPSC will release the prelims admit card first and the candidates who clear the exam will receive the mains admit card at their official website. The candidates need to bring the hall ticket to the exam center along with a valid ID card. Candidates will not be allowed to attend the exam without the admit card & valid ID proof.
